Storytime: Superman #353

Troxx-5S, an alien from a far-advanced society in a parallel dimension where criminal acts are impossible, has been using the technology at his disposal to switch places with Superman. While the Man of Steel is transported to the unknown realm, Troxx-5S commits all sorts of crimes in Metropolis, from bank robberies and vandalism, to property destruction and hijacking. So begins...  "The Fantastic Foe Superman Could Never Meet!" Superman #353 Cover by Ross Andru, Dick Giordano (August, 1980) Artist: Curt Swan Inks: Frank Chiaramonte Colors: Adrienne Roy Letters: Ben Oda Writer: Cary Bates  Getting dubbed by the citizens simply as "The Demolisher," the alien criminal also takes advantage of the inter-dimensional switches to make it seem as if Superman is afraid to confront him. The media quickly turns on Superman, and questions his absence and perceived inaction to the crisis, but Lois Lane quickly reassures him of her unbreakable trust and faith in him. In retur...

Comics With a Theme: The Epiphany

Today is January 6th, which is celebrated by many as the feast day of the Epiphany. A bit of a stretch here, because the connection is only in name, but the suggested reading with a theme for this installment is 2016's collected edition of "Martian Manhunter: The Epiphany." Martian Manhunter Volume 1 "The Epiphany" Cover by Eric Canete (February, 2016) The Martian Manhunter's past has come back to haunt him, as a terrorist alien invasion code-named "The Epiphany" threatens to destroy Earth. In order to validate to himself, as well as the world, that he is the hero he knows himself to be, J'onn J'onzz must make the ultimate sacrifice. But things get even more difficult when Superman demands to know what J'onn knew about the Martians' terrible plans for Earth! Full disclosure: "The Epiphany" takes place during DC's transition from the New 52  era into its new Divergence  or DC You  initiative; therefore, the permanence o...

Great Moments: Wonder Woman No More

The year was 1994, Superman had recently died at the hands of Doomsday, and been replaced with four new characters, all claiming to be the Man of Steel. Batman had his back broken by Bane, and a psychotic had taken over the mantle of the Dark Knight. Green Lantern had fallen from grace, and a successor was soon chosen in his place. The next obvious idea: Replace Wonder Woman! Artemis of the Bana-Migdall. Artwork by Mike Deodato Jr. Writer William Messner-Loebs and then breakout star Mike Deodato Jr. created one of the most successful eras in the history of the character, which strangely enough was also one of the lowest points in her life.  Her worst enemy turned out not to be a monstrous alien, or a criminally insane, venom-pumping villain; it was her own mother, the Queen Hippolyta! "And her mother! She can see Hippolyta!" The matriarch of the amazons decreed that Diana was no longer worthy of her title as Wonder Woman, and called for a contest to choose a new representativ...

Superman #36 Cover by Dan Mora (March 2025) Corner Box Variant Cover by Skylar Patridge Variant Cover by Rod Reis Variant Cover by Taurin Clarke Artwork:  Dan Mora Writer:  Joshua Williamson Superboy Prime is a polarizing figure among fans; some hate to love him, some love to hate him. Turns out that never keeps getting shorter and shorter, because the divisive teenager has returned for the "All-In" era...
